Only a few days ago Sam Bryant and I were trying to rack our brains as to when we first met…. We both realised that it was on a shoot over 10 years ago with a stylist friend of ours who was not necessarily having the best of times with their life nor with their assistants at the time and their madness on the shoot ended up overshadowing the whole day really, hence why we probably couldn’t remember ( or we’d just chosen to block the whole day out….. as it was pure mayhem).

Anyway, luckily for me and hopefully for Sam we became friends from that day forward and I asked Sam if she would do the make-up for a hair story I was about to shoot for 10 magazine with Corinne Day. She obliged, came to my newly bought home with bare plastered walls where we shot and we hung out for the day!

I’ve since done numerous shoots and shows with Sam, and we’ve been on trips together where we discovered our mutual love for Fleetwood Mac and Yazoo!! ( great driving music )

Anyhow, let me tell you a bit more about Sam Bryant……….

Sam is for me, a real life creative country bumpkin. With one half of her hippy heart stuck in farmland ( She lives in Cheddar Gorge, on a farm with her adorable husband Jack ( who is in the band Reef) and their delightful 2 children, she still has her charming Somerset accent.  The other half of her heart lies in fashion in London and wherever else it takes her.  She is the make-up artist who has created 99% of the make-up for the genius pictures of photographer Tim Walker for many years now, amongst other people, when she gets the time.

Sam is an inspring woman who proves you can have a family and live a completely different life outside the fashion industry if you so choose, but still have a successful career….. Way to go Sam!!!!!!!!

Have a read of her charming answers for the Q&A !

WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE GROWING UP?

The Avon lady. Can you remember her Neil? She’d be one of your neighbours or your Auntie Gwen and would come around flogging Avon cosmetics with her catalogue and a bag of little testers. God I loved those little testers.

HOW DID YOU END UP DOING WHAT YOU’RE DOING NOW?

I think my answer above pretty much answers this one. Have always love messing around with make up.

WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE IF YOU WEREN’T YOU?

Richard Branson. He has pots of money and always looks as though he is having a bloody good laugh. I’m also partial to a beard.

WHERE DO YOU LIVE?

In Cheddar Gorge, my lovely.

IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING IN YOUR CITY WHAT WOULD IT BE?

No, I can’t think of anything off the top of my head.

WHAT ARE YOU INTO RIGHT NOW? ( MUSIC, FASHION , ART,  FOOD)

Oh Neil, if I say the right things will you let me be in your gang?

IF YOU COULD LIVE ANYWHERE BESIDES WHERE YOU ARE, WHERE WOULD IT BE?

Somewhere by the sea would be nice.

WHAT MUSIC WERE YOU INTO GROWING UP- ARE YOU STILL INTO IT NOW?

Oh my god, I loved erasure! I had a massive crush on Andy Bell, Tutu and all!! Vince Clark is so clever i loved Yazoo as well.

The Waterboys album Fishermans Blues is a record that I played so much and it makes me feel very nostalgic when I hear it. That was one of those ‘coming of age’ albums.

WHO’S YOUR FAVORITE DESIGNER THAT YOU WOULD WEAR?

What’s a clever career move Neil? Who shall I say!!

WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO NEXT?

Back home to Cheddar and then off to the beach for the weekend. Supposed to be gorgeous weather. What are you doing?
